I am an Iowa girl through and through and will always be so. I love this state, its people, its culture, and its geography, if not its winters; I greatly prefer warm, sunny Florida when it’s cold up north. I worked as a school librarian, an educational technology consultant, and an online instructor at the university level. My husband and I love boating, kayaking, canoeing, hiking and traveling backroads. We have three terrific adult children and five fun-filled grandchildren.
I love adventures, starting with my stint as a 16-year-old exchange student in Ecuador. I have visited all 50 states and a number of foreign countries. My husband, knowing of my desire to emulate Huck Finn (minus the raft), persuaded me to buy a fairly large boat and travel America’s Great Loop around the eastern United States and Canada. We lived onboard for parts of five years and traveled over 9,000 miles on rivers, canals, lakes, bays, gulfs, and even “outside” on the Atlantic. It was an incredible journey resulting in lifelong friendships.
Our newest adventure is “wheelin’” aka traveling off-road in our Jeep. I am excited about what we’ve done so far and am looking forward to this new mode of travel adventures.
I have been interested in photography as long as I can remember. I began to devote more time, energy and budget to this hobby after my retirement and discovered I feel fulfilled when I capture a compelling image. I spent a snowy winter night in a 6x8 foot plywood box in order to photograph sandhill cranes in Nebraska which helped me realize that I am passionate about landscape photography. I am blessed to be involved in adventures that provide ample opportunities for photographing spectacular scenery.
